Montafon Ski Trip

Montafon is a 40km valley containing 11 resorts and 5 main lift systems. With 222km of marked pistes of varied difficulties Montafon ensures skiers of all abilities will enjoy the slopes. The biggest lift and piste network in the valley is the Silvretta Nova which has the two main resorts of Gaschurn (1000m) and St Gallenkirch (900m). Montafon’s location in Vorarlberg makes it quite far from the Austrian airport of Salzburg, however it is easily reached from Zürich in Switzerland.

All the resorts in Montafon are covered by a single lift pass; there are 62 lifts in the region. Snow conditions in the Montafon valley are generally good which benefits beginners. 50% of the runs are blues and 36% are red, so with plenty of long top-to-bottom descents beginners and intermediates have a vast amount of skiing to enjoy. Experts, although only having 14% black runs, have good deep-snow skiing and challenging off-piste possibilities.

Schruns (700m), St Gallenkirch (900m), Gaschurn (1000m) and Gargellen (1425m) are the four main resorts in the Montafon valley. Schruns is a small town with easy blue runs, including the exceptional 12km long Kreuzjoch run. St Gallenkirch and Gaschurn, an attractive village, are in the Silvretta Nova area, which is the most challenging area in the valley. Gargellen is a small village tucked up in a side valley with a quiet and varied piste network.
